OTHER GAMES
Everything has its beginning and its end. And, unfortunately, sooner or later the Game of Thrones series, beloved by millions of viewers, will end. Fortunately, there are many books in the world that can have a long life on TV.
"The Order of the Manuscript"
About what. Four thick novels by Ted Williams tell about a kingdom engulfed by wars and troubles. As befits high-quality fantasy, the series features a chosen hero, unusual creatures, intelligent animals, adventures and battles.
Why film it? George Martin himself admits that he got the idea to write A Song of Ice and Fire after reading Williams' books. According to Martin, they made him believe in the possibility of creating a pseudo-historical fantasy with political intrigues and power struggles.
"The Amber Chronicles"
About what. The series includes 10 novels. The universe invented by Roger Zelazny consists of an infinite number of parallel worlds that are "shadows" of the world of order and the world of chaos. Some heroes are able to move between worlds, influencing their fate.
Why film it? An epic canvas with vivid characters, feats and action. Zelazny's books have many fans who make up entire lists of actors suitable for the role of a particular character.
"Small, big"
About what. John Crowley's novel was published in 1981, and is still being republished in various languages. The book tells the story of several generations of the Drickwater family who live in a magical manor.
Why film it? A detailed world begs to be shown on the screen. In the format of the series, you can have time to tell about all the numerous Drinkwaters and their contacts with fairies and spirits.
"In the depths of the Great Crystal"
About what. The cycle is based on the idea of multiple parallel universes. Selected children and some adults can move from one to the other. Each of the worlds has its own life, its own geography and history. The universes are united by common problems of the characters – loneliness of children, indifference or even cruelty of adults.
Why film it? The cycle of novels by the Russian writer is unlikely to interest American TV channels, despite the attractiveness and versatility of the material. But perhaps someday there will be enough money and creative people on Russian TV who will be able to bring to the screen the worlds created by Vladislav Krapivin's talent. bethall
